A Proposal for the MTU/Terex Lean Leadership Laboratory

Project Date:
2006-2007

John Gershenson
Primary Investigator

Sponsor:
Terex

The goal of the MTU/Terex collaboration in Lean Manufacturing is to train 'Lean Leaders' that are ready to step into an organization and lead a group on the journey to a lean facility. The purpose of this proposal is to create the infrastructure that will allow ant programmatic option to be successful. Such a lean leader needs a Mechanical Engineering degree that is heavy on manufacturing issues and perhaps an MBA that focuses on project management and finance. The purpose of this proposal is to create the infrastructure that will allow any programmatic option to be successful.

One key element of any option will be the MTU/Terex Lean leadership laboratory. An environment where students solve real problems at real manufacturing facilities. This project will create a joint learning laboratory, an actual manufacturing facility during its operating hours with activities and mentoring within the facility will be designed to create this learning environment and weave it within a framework of MTU courses.
